At work, Astrid is admired by her fans as a famous cabaret artist and privately a second child is on the road to completing her family's happiness. But her world is turned upside down overnight when she learns that her unborn child has a severe heart defect and will be born with Down syndrome. With her husband Markus, she now has to decide whether she will opt for a late abortion in the sixth month or give birth to a mentally and physically disabled child. The otherwise strong woman is torn and poses agonizing questions: “May I judge the life and death of my child?” Long discussions within the family and with her mother Beate follow. In the end, there is a decision - but it is not one with which Astrid and Markus are entirely at peace.
