The Gerlind Institute for Cultural Studies provides professional university-level educational services. Our vision is to make our programs accessible to learners from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Therefore, we offer flexible tuition rates.

  • INTRODUCTORY CLASS/ “SCHNUPPERKLASSE” One hour (60 minutes) one-on-one introductory class, includes sample lesson, teaching methodology, student assessment, discussion of your objectives and scheduling: $50

  • INDIVIDUAL CLASSES (One-on-one) The fastest way to learn German at your own pace and timing, focusing on your specific objectives. Tuition is calculated for classes on an ongoing basis (short, intermediate, long, and open-ended terms available).
    $105 per 60 minutes

German Language Instruction

  • SEMI-PRIVATE CLASSES (Two students) An effective way of studying German with a classmate. Classes consist of students with similar skill levels and goals to create a dynamic learning environment.
    $60 per student per 60 minutes / $80 per student per 90 minutes

  • SMALL GROUP CLASSES (minimum three students) An effective way of studying German in a small group of highly motivated learners. Classes consist of students with similar skill levels and goals to create a dynamic learning environment.
    $60 per student per 90 minutes

Seminars / Events:

  • KLÖNSCHNACK Our monthly German conversation group, Klönschnack is open to the public. We request a donation: members $5, non-members $10-20. No one turned away for lack of funds.

  • FILMNACHT every other month, we have the screening of a Germany-related film followed by a discussion facilitated by Marion Gerlind. Suggested donation: members $10, non-members $15-20. No one turned away for lack of funds. 

  • ORAL HISTORY presentations and dialogue with community members. Alternating months, usually the fourth Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Gerlind Institute for Cultural Studies in Oakland, or a co-sponsoring venue or via ZOOM. 
    Suggested donation:  members $10, non-members $15-20.
