We envision the study of German to be a fast, enjoyable, and meaningful experience opening doors and windows to wonderful worlds reflecting our differences and connections. We get to know each other through learning, acknowledging growth, and transformation. We are building a diverse community interested in German cultural studies. The Gerlind Institute:

• creates accessible classes and events  for students and participants from various socioeconomic backgrounds

• offers a one-of-kind Oral History Series

• takes an active gender-inclusive, antiracist, LGBTQ+-inclusive approach to teaching

• emphasizes dialogical and trust-building relationships in the learning process

• is dedicated to helping students reach their goals, supporting their unique path of lifelong learning

• appreciates students’ and participants’ suggestions, life experiences, and wisdom

• connects academia and community

• contributes to the multilingual, multinational community of the San Francisco Bay Area

• promotes both national and international programming
