Join us for an evening of sharing Ingrid’s life story and adventure in the Horn of Africa. She will take us through her journey to build a school in Southern Ethiopia through the organization Imagine1day, a growing global community of people making passionate contributions toward ensuring that all Ethiopians have access to quality education funded free of foreign aid by 2030.

Ingrid was born and raised in Angola, West Africa until she was 16. She spent summers with her grandmother in Germany, in a small village not far from Lake Constance. She finished high school in New York, due to the civil  war in Angola, and later studied at UC Santa Barbara. After completing her Ph.D. in Physics, she moved to Germany as a Member of the Technical Staff at the Max Planck Institute. After three years in Stuttgart, Ingrid returned to California and has pursued successful academic and  corporate careers. She has refocused her work in areas that are meaningful to her, contributing to efforts in renewable energy and health.

In October 2013 she set foot in Africa for the first time in 38 years…

“It is my deep conviction that when we contribute to the education of children, no matter where in the world, we are helping them as they mature to make important decisions based on knowledge, and this will benefit us all.” ~ Ingrid Peterson
