Landrauschen

102 min. | Director Lisa Miller | 2018 | Germany | German with English subtitles | PAL

With a mixture of documentary recordings and working with amateur actors who speak in their own dialect, the authentic atmosphere of a real village is re-imagined in a fictional story and the deep identity conflicts in it are revealed. Instead of a detailed script for the dialogue, a script concept is used. This should encourage the actors to play freely and leave room for their own improvisation. The framework is a story in which traditional narrative patterns and characters of the peasant theater or the classic Heimatfilm can be found. These are first subverted by a postmodern narrative style. In addition to the dialect, the organic, hand-held camera also serves as a stylistic device. Landrauschen was created without public film funding with the help of a crowdfunding campaign on Startnext and local sponsors. In January 2018, the film won the Max Ophels Prize for Best Fiction Film, Best Screenplay and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. In February it was shown as a guest of the Perspektive Deutsches Kino.
